Since I have a separate domain with e-mail, the Outlook.com account is not my main and not my only account.
So I had to perform step 2 in the tutorial.

I have the IMAP mail accounts re-set up.

So now I am back on the green field and can try to set up the Outlook.com account.

How do I add the account via "e-mail account" or via "manual configuration or additional service types"?

I have log myself correctly.

The direct way "e-mail account" does not go my e-mail address is ***** is and no @ Outlook.com address.
My account with Microsoft is my e-mail address *****

Therefore, somehow simply can not work.

Frustration....

I ran the following test:

I took a .docx file I created on my office PC which was stored on our server and saved it locally to my PC harddrive. I then save a copy as .doc as well. Then I emailed both files to my office Outlook account AND my iCloud account (with one email).

BOTH files did NOT open from my Outlook account and BOTH files just opened fine from my iCloud account.

I then forwarded the email from my Outlook account to my iCloud account and now BOTH files did NOT open anymore.

So it seems that my Outlook account (Exchange server) corrupts the files.

Can that be?

I am , Independent Advisor, to work with you on this issue. You should create a new notebook in Onenote online and copy the sections there from these .one files (on a Windows computer). Then you can access these onenotes from your Mac also

if I could - instead of installing Win 10 and OneNote 2016 - just subscribe to Microsoft 365 to get access to my old OneNote files on my MAC? - This won't work.

<br />actually I seldom get a satisfactory reply from ms support pages. in most cases they do not understand the question.
<br />my "problem" is that I want use and apply simple single toolbars (no ribbons) as in all previous versions since 1993 and my present office2011 for mac,
<br />and which also work for each and every open workbook.
<br />unfortunately i can no longer use this version when I update my os to 'big sur' or buy a new macbook.
<br />someone from microsoft (in a chat on Oct 01) confirmed to me that I can now create my own toolbars, but i can only find the possibility to set up user defined ribbons/groups, which i cannot set up/design as I want them (only icons/no text and my own icons for my macros). moreover I can only open one ribbon at a time instead of having all commands available at the same time. finally ribbons are attached to every workbook instead of the application, and use a large area of the screen.
<br />In other words ribbons are absolutely useless (or just scrap)
