Invisible list style template in Microsoft Word that can't be deleted

Years ago, I created a special style template for an auto-numbered list in Microsoft Word 2003 that looks something like this:Fig. 1Fig. 2...I need to delete this style template because it keeps appearing in various places and Word 2003 mistakenly applies it even to normal bullet lists.The style seems to be stored in normal.dot. However, it is not shown under "Styles".I have already deleted all styles from normal.dot that are deletable. All remaining styles refuse to be deleted.I have also deleted ..\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\List Gallery PresetsWhat other opt

Um einer Begriffsverwirrung vorzubeugen:

Bei den Schemas unter "Start | Absatz | Liste mit mehreren Ebenen | Listenbibliothek" handelt es sich
nicht um Listenformatvorlagen (List Styles), sondern um Listenvorlagen (List Templates).

Listenformatvorlagen (List Styles) kann man aber erstellen über "Start | Absatz | Liste mit mehreren Ebenen | Neuen Listentyp definieren". Die Listenformatvorlagen des Dokuments erscheinen dann unterhalb der "Listenbibliothek" in einem eigenen Bereich "Listenformatvorlagen".

That is very cool. Good t know that others have the same issue and got a work around. Even better would be a microsoft that listens to users and get rid of this bug feature. next version of office? Would that be possible? That'll be awesome!

The R1C1 reference style can only be set on application level, not at workbook level.

Means this setting affects all files!

At first, delete your template Book.xltx then do as follows:

Close Excel

Open Excel

Open File\Options\Formulas and check the option "R1C1 Reference Style"

Close Excel

Open Excel

If the reference style is back to A1 you have other workbooks that are loaded at startup, e.g. PERSONAL.XLSB

Click View\Unhide window and make the hidden workbook visible

Open File\Options\Formulas and check the option "R1C1 Reference Style"

Click View\Hide window and the hide the workbook

Close Excel

When Excel asks you to save the PERSONAL.XLSB choose Yes

So frustrierend, bekomme so viele Word-Dokumente, die sich nicht richtig mit anderen Programmen anzeigen lassen und Word nervt mit so etwas herum. That is why I can't have something nice.

Many thanks for the suggestions. They did not help, though. I deleted the template Book.xltx in the start-up folder and made sure there is none anywhere on the C drive. After the close / open /close / open procedure I am back to A1 style.

There is no PERSONAL.XLSB on my C drive. I checked also the spelling in lower case. But when I open an existing workbook directly in the file explorer, the I do get actually two books: the one I wanted and an empty Book1.xlsx. Is this the other workbook
your mention? Is it associated with the root cause? I would be grateful for a sound solution.

For the time being I implemented a Aut o_O

pen VBA procedure, which is setting the R1C1 style at opening of the workbook. But that is a bit clumsy and I would appreciate a more professional solution.
