    My "sent from" e-mail address is incorrect after setting um a custom mail domain


    I set um a custom domain with a custom e-mail address in my O365 account. It looked like the setup of the custom alias did not finish correctly, but I do receive e-mails on that mail address and I could set it as my primary alias for my account.However, when I'm now sending e-mails from that alias, the "sent from" address is something cryptic "outlook_RANDOM-HEX-CODE" @outlook.com. The behaviour is the same in Outlook for Windows and Outlook web client.Please advise how to sent e-mails from my custom e-mail alias.

    Of course,

    Since I have a separate domain with e-mail, the Outlook.com account is not my main and not my only account.
    So I had to perform step 2 in the tutorial.

    I have the IMAP mail accounts re-set up.

    So now I am back on the green field and can try to set up the Outlook.com account.

    How do I add the account via "e-mail account" or via "manual configuration or additional service types"?

    I have log myself correctly.

    The direct way "e-mail account" does not go my e-mail address is ***** is and no @ Outlook.com address.
    My account with Microsoft is my e-mail address *****

    Therefore, somehow simply can not work.

    Frustration....

    and thank you for your valuable insight that there is no such functionality. That saves me further hours trying in vain.

    I appreciate your link and it was helpful to a certain degree even though it is quite old and things look and work different in Outlook 2019. The first problem I encountered was that Outlook wouldn't set up the new account when I entered a wrong incoming
    server. I chose IMAP btw. but that shouldn't make a difference, right? When I entered the correct server it downloaded all emails from my Gmail account which I don't want it to do. So I repeated the process but this time I put Outlook in offline mode prior
    to setting up the new account. Before reactivating online mode, I deactivated receiving mail items in the send-receive-group setting as described on your webpage. That seemed to work in the beginning but once I pressed the send/receive all folders button it
    ignored the setting and started downloading my inbox again. I wonder if that is a bug or intentional. To prevent me from accidentally doing this in the future, I went into the server settings and changed the incoming server address as described in your article.
    One has to deselect the "automatically test settings" field to complete the process. If you want to keep a copy of sent emails in your sent box, on the POP- and IMAP account settings where you enter all the server addresses you need to go to advanced settings,
    hit the advanced tab and uncheck "Don't keep a copy of sent elements". My Outlook is in German so please forgive me if the wording isn't a 100% match. It seems to work ok for now even though I find it strange that I get frequent error messages now that Outlook
    couldn't check the Gmail inbox for new mail. It seems as if unchecking the button "receive mail items" doesn't do anything and Outlook still tries to call the inbox.

    I guess I could just ignore that but there is one more thing: When I receive a forwarded message from Gmail in my Outlook inbox and I click reply it will do so using my outlook email account. I have to manually change the "From:" address to my Gmail even
    though Outlook recognizes Gmail as the receiving account. Shouldn't Outlook choose the original recipient address as the reply address?

    maybe it helps, if I switch to English.

    I tried your suggestion with the profile, unfortunitly this did not solve the issue at least not in a first step....

    Some additional remarks, what I tried (after your suggestion; my outlook is german installation, so I hope the English terms used here do match to the english version of outlook)

    Starting situation: Outlook is installed, first profile (email account configured; my @outlook.com account

    Now I want to create a second account:

    Step1: Open Outlook, File --> Add Account --> pop up appears --> enter email address (*** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. ***); flag for advanced configuration / addional settings flagged --> click connect

    step2: Dialog extended setup: I chose IMAP

    step3: enter password (checked it 100 times ;-) --> connect / next

    interims result: Outlook starts to setup the account (I can see it already appearing in the backround of the dialog, but after the procedure no folders are below...; a test message got sent to my gmx account

    BUT Pop-up appears after a while stating that something went wrong and offers 3 Options:

    - Not *** Die E-Mail-Adresse wurde aus Datenschutzgründen entfernt. ***?

    - Change account settings?

    - contact Support

    I chose no 2 to check the server data that Outlook used.

    step 4: According to my mail provider (GMX) these are the correct server data:

    IMAP: imap.gmx.net, Port 993; Encryption: SSL

    SMTP: mail.gmx.net, Port 587 Encryption STARTTLS,
    TLS

    All this did not help.

    Solution:

    I had to remove all mail profiles and start from scratch. After each mail account I added to Outlook I had to restart Outlook to add
    the second and at the end my 3rd account.

    But now everything is fine.

    Thanks for the hint with the profiles.. that was the key..
