How does ODBC with Excel work under Windows 7 without running Excel as Administrator?

Using Windows XP I didn't need to have admin rights to configure ODBC connections and as well none to use these ODBC connections e.g. in Excel 2010.

Now using Windows 7 I need admin rights to configure ODBC - that's okay. But I also need them to connect via ODBC to my database. When I don't run Excel as admin, the connection doesn't start (there is even no message why not) - I need to start Excel as admin
each time.

Is there no way to use ODBC without starting Excel as administrator? (I would be ok, when the admin password prompt appears when I try to connect to my ODBC data source... but this doesn't happen)...

The main problem why I can't default to run Excel as administrator: I cannot open any Excel-Document e.g. out of the Windows Explorer with Excel. I always have to start Excel first and then use the File-Open-Dialogue to access the Excel sheet.

I use an IBM ODBC driver for DB2 and Excel 2010, Windows 7 SP1

Unfortunately I can't find the files by searching them or in Word.
1. I don't have an 365 Abo, do you know if I can use the "Reset my whole OneDrive"-function also if I only buy the Abo now? Does it work retroperspectively? If yes, I think this could solve my problem.
2. Do you know what happens with OneDrive files when one overwrites them with "Copy+replace"? This is how I lost my file and still it's not in the bin.

<br />actually I seldom get a satisfactory reply from ms support pages. in most cases they do not understand the question.
<br />my "problem" is that I want use and apply simple single toolbars (no ribbons) as in all previous versions since 1993 and my present office2011 for mac,
<br />and which also work for each and every open workbook.
<br />unfortunately i can no longer use this version when I update my os to 'big sur' or buy a new macbook.
<br />someone from microsoft (in a chat on Oct 01) confirmed to me that I can now create my own toolbars, but i can only find the possibility to set up user defined ribbons/groups, which i cannot set up/design as I want them (only icons/no text and my own icons for my macros). moreover I can only open one ribbon at a time instead of having all commands available at the same time. finally ribbons are attached to every workbook instead of the application, and use a large area of the screen.
<br />In other words ribbons are absolutely useless (or just scrap)

Solved my problem.

Here what helped me:

1)Go to settings->Programs(or applications not sure use not English version). Find OneNote, enter advanced settings, and clear OneNote app (or reset idk).

2)After that when I was entering OneNote I needed to chose what Microsoft account I want to use. When I was using my home account, nothing worked properly, again and again got the same error. Than I changed my account to another one and boom I entered app.

3)After that, inside application I changed account to mine.

Thanks for asking, I THINK and HOPE the problem is solved. In my applications list, I now only see the Office Home version I actually bought. The system doesn't indicate that there still is an Office 365 installed on my computer. However, when I start Word
or PowerPoint or Excel, the starting logo still says Office 365. As another moderator indicated, this is most likely only a bug and does not mean that I run an actual Office 365 version on my computer. Well, I now just HOPE that Microsoft will not charge me
a suscription fee for a product that I bought in a non-suscription version.
