Surface Pro blanks out while using OneNote

hello,

Item is a surface pro (2017) with black type cover, Office 365 Home (German) bought dec 14 2017 (student offering from MS) for student use.

Problem occurs like following:

Student is using One Note with type cover attached. Surface is powered either externally or internally. Whether OneNote is actively used or not screen blanks out (gets black). type cover is still lit. The on/off switch does not react being pressed within 5-8 seconds. Out of that timeframe (i.e. 10 seconds later after the blackout) system reacts to pressing of that switch by showing the rectangular white Windows Logo. System boots again and logs in using hello and instantly shows OneNote again. No data loss seems to occur. This happens several times a day without dependency of ambient temperature or system load.

A single occurrence of same behaviour happened without using OneNote.

It feels as if the system all over sudden decides to do a shutdown but hides what happens so on/off switch also starts to react when system is powered down.

What can we do?

Is it a software problem or a hardware problem? how to do more diagnostics?
